At the end of April, the Ammerland region awakens from its delicate slumber: the blooming season begins in the numerous rhododendron parks and nurseries. A diverse sea of blossoms invites visitors to Westerstede to take a walk for the senses: colorful rhododendrons wherever the eye looks. Few people know the original home of these natural beauties: from the seashore to the heights of the Himalayas, from the tropical rainforest to the subpolar tundra. In the fertile soils of the green park landscape of the Ammerland in the northwest of Lower Saxony, many species have found a new home and have been further cultivated. You can learn more about rhododendrons and azaleas on expert guided tours offered in most of the parks.
