Fun for Children in Westerstede
Young discoverers please note
Did you know that Westerstede has got its own mayor for children? In our peaceful city in the Ammerland even the clocks tick differently. In Westerstede also the young ones have a say. Moreover there are many exciting things to discover. On our guided city tour for children for example we take a closer look at our big, old church. It is as old as the total age of ten grandmothers. Together we will also discover the town hall. We even pay a visit to the mayor here. In an exciting scavenger hunt we pass through the city park, the Thalenweide (meadow) and the town centre. If possible, we take a look at the creative workshop Abraxas. A full programme for the little city explorers! The fun for children in Westerstede takes around an hour, price and date on request.
Hössen public swimming pool
Small and large water rats are totally in their element in the Hössen public swimming pool. You cannot only swim inside but also splash around in the big, heated open-air pool or jump from the different towers into the water. A 50 m long slide ends in the indoor swimming pool: So, off you go to enjoy yourselves!
Since 2004 there is a parent-child area with low water. There is something to do for everyone.
Let’s start an adventurous trip with the museum railway Ammerland-Barßel-Saterland. Every few minutes the train whistles, during the train ride very loudly – this must be the case, because the train driver must “announce” the train almost at every crossing – and at every “milk can” there is a stop.
During this big ride you will get to know the beautiful landscape in an entertaining manner and you will also learn something about the museum railway. Everybody on board and off you go!

Toy museum of the Ammerland
In the toy museum of the Ammerland recollections emerge: this particular doll, this special teddy which conquered the heart at that time. Also for children this is a fascinating visit: Let’s have a look which doll carriage was then pushed by mom or with which railway dad played at that time. Several thousand toys will captivate you: for example the very old doll houses and toy trains, old tin toys and cars, farmsteads and merry-go-rounds and an old, big circus.
The toys in the museum have a long story to tell and you and your family are welcomed to this museum.
